| Thanksgiving point is in Lehi Utah about mid way between Salt Lake City and Provo. The complex includes gardens, shops, restaurants, a working farm, a Dinosaur Museum, and a Golf Course. In early April 1999, a massive garden railroad larger than a football field, and containing over 5000 feet of stainless steel track, started to take shape. | |||||

The railroad was designed by Dr. Tom Catherall who is the head of BYU's Department of Recreation Management and Youth Leadership. The university was given a $500,000 grant by Karen Ashton, cofounder of Thanksgiving Point Institute Inc. for Dr. Catherall to design and construct the railroad.
The money was used to construct the railroad at Thanksgiving Point while utilizing engineering students from BYU to build bridges and other structures. Members of the Utah Garden Railway Society and other railroad enthusiasts donated their labor to help make this project become a reality. At the left you can see Dr. Tom Catherall inspecting the massive site just prior to commencing construction on the morning of Friday April 2, 1999 |

| I had the pleasure of being there to help begin construction along with Tom Catherall, Bruce Alger, who supervised the construction for Dr. Catherall, and members of the Utah Garden Railway Society. The weather was less than ideal with cold temperatures and a blinding snow storm at times making it difficult to see. | |||||

| In spite of the weather we were able to complete the first 75 feet of roadbed and bend the first sections of Stainless Steel Flex Track. Thanks Bruce for the loan of your extra jacket, Don Morris, H&R Trains | |||||
