The garden Railroad opens to the public

Alice and I stopped at Thanksgiving point on our way back to Florida after the Garden Railroad convention in San Diego.

I was amazed at the changes that had taken place since we were last here a little over a year ago. We really had a lot of fun helping to get the railroad ready for it's opening to the public.

Tom, Bruce, and all the volunteers and others who worked so hard to make this railroad a reality should be proud of the results, it was spectacular in every respect.
Bruce Alger (Pictured at left) was hired by Thanksgiving point as the Garden Railroad Manager.

He worked with Dr. Catherall on the project as his forman during the construction. Bruce told me he tried not to smile to much on his job for fear that his employer would realize how much fun he was having.

Burce also told me that he was afraid that in a weak moment he may have agreed to work for nothing.

Many families toured the railroad during the first couple of days and they were all smiles as well.

The Marklin portion of the railroad in the two photos above got it's first real workout by many eager engineers. In all there were more than twelve trains running on the Garden Railroad for the first one thousand or more visitors.
